(Jon here) My old Lansing band, Gone Dog, opened for the L Seven/ Butt bill in Detroit. A couple of them disappeared to score down the street, which was fucking suicidal. We mostly chatted with L Seven, the Cat guys were hanging in the camper. They ripped it up though, great set.

I was at that Tacoland show in San Antonio, at the age of nineteen, can confirm it was pretty hairy. All I can remember about Cat Butt is that Duet wasn't feeling well, I remember him saying in the middle of their show "Tacoland rules, San An(tonio) rules, I suck", but their show was great. At one point I was being harassed by some rough looking skinhead types, I was getting pretty scared, and then Jennifer Finch walks up, sits next to me, takes over the conversation, and defused the whole situation. It was one of the nicest things a stranger has ever done for me.
am slightly disappointed in myself that I had a copy of Journey To the Center... in my hands at a record show recently and put it back because I was at my cash limit. I did buy a Walkabouts LP and the Another Pyrrhic Victory comp at the same time, though. I hope the guy still has it. I listened to a vinyl rip I downloaded 12 years ago while reading this.
Will do. as soon as dropbox syncs it. What's funny is that I managed to torrent the exact same vinyl rip last night, but with the 7" tracks added, which I never had.
I am still thinking about this and one of my favorite parts was seeing the evolution of Duet’s poster art, following the same themes but clarifying itself. Very cool.
Terrific piece, Aaron. I can confirm, due to some minor proximity to it, that reckless, drunken, drugged, throw-a-rock-through-a-window-for fun, anything-goes vibe that surrounded not just this band but many in the late 80s Seattle underground, particularly those playing this type of music. Cat Butt will always be mocked, deservedly, for their dumb band name and probably for Duet's vocals, but man, I saw them twice and they were great! The 6/28/1989 show at The Vogue that you have a flyer for here was one I saw at age 21, just out of college, and it was like a Charles Peterson photo come to life. Bodies flying, audience screaming, wild bands. It was even the live debut of "Dickless". Good times - thanks again for the detail and thoroughness here.
